Venom is one of nature’s great paradoxes. At its most basic level its designed to kill — and to do so quickly and efficiently. Yet , the same properties that make it deadly can also be harnessed to provide potent healing.

What is Venom?

Venom is the poisonous secretion of an animal, produced by specialized glands that are often associated with spines, teeth, stings, or other piercing devices. The venom apparatus may be primarily for killing or paralyzing prey or may be a purely defensive adaptation. Some venoms also function as digestive fluids.

Uses of venom in medicine

As far as we know there are about 20 million distinct venom toxins with each having its own biological target. The three main types that have been classified are Hemotoxins, Neurotoxins, cytotoxins. These toxins can be used to relieve pain, help fight disease, and so much more.
